Quote of the Day

I'll set the scene for you...

Caleb is sitting on the toilet.  I think you are educated enough to know what that means.

Caleb: "Mommy!  I'm going potty and Sarah is too!  I'm going on the potty and Sarah's going in her pants."

Fantastically observant.

A Glimpse

This one is really hard to explain, but I want to document it nonetheless.

Last night I was giving the kids a bath after they had been playing in the sandbox outside.  Praise the Lord for beautiful weather, by the way.  As they were standing in the tub, I became inexplicably overwhelmed at the sight of my two children.  Nothing extra special was happening.  I was just in awe of the work of the Creator.  He creates perfectly.  He creates with such care.  He allows me to be a part of the process.

All of a sudden, I became incredibly appreciative that God has allowed me to birth, love, teach, and witness these two lives.  And then came the realization that there will soon be a third little body using that very bathtub.

Blessed for a third time.  Challenged for a third time.  Sustained through a third pregnancy.  Lord willing, we will welcome a third child into this world in early October.

So, there you have it.  Several of you already know.  Several of you are hearing this for the first time.  I ask each of you to join us in praying for the growth, development, and overall health of this child I cannot even detect yet.  May God receive all the glory for his work in our lives.

You Are Lovely

For all of you lovely (mostly) ladies who keep up with my blog.  I love you!  Happy Valentine's Day!

Can You Feel the Excitement?

If not, put yourself in my place.  In less than 24 hours, Jadie and I will be leaving the kids behind with their one and only Granana so we can get away for the weekend!

If it were you, you'd be excited too.

Where are we going?  Wimberley,Texas, of course.  The most captivating location in the world.

Not really.  Yes, we are going to Wimberley.  No, it's not the most captivating place on earth.  But it is quite a slow-paced, peaceful kind of place.  And we will enjoy ourselves.

A group of married couples from our church takes a trip to Wimberley each year around Valentine's Day.  There will be lots of fellowship and good food along with a few seminars that are very laid back and informal.

So, adios, y'all!

Sweet Pea - Amos Lee

I'm digging this today...

Wintry Mix Day

Some days, the decisions facing a mother don't seem to have a clear answer.

The weather was forecasted to be rainy, then freezing temps, then sleet, then continued freezing through tomorrow morning.  The schools directly around us have not closed, but just about everyone else has.

I finally made the decision for the kids and I take another day off from everything.  We're not really running all over the city on any given day, but what I mean is that we are staying home today and not going ANYWHERE.

That decision did not come quickly.  Today is our Bible Study Fellowship class.  My teaching partner had already called and left text messages telling me she would not be there because her son was running fever.  Jadie had already left for work (with a bag pack in case he needs to stay the night in the store room at work).

I decided that we would leave right after class this morning, and not stay for recorded lecture time.

I got the kids dressed and fed and we started driving.  The roads didn't seem to be slippery or icy, but they were frosty.  About 5 minutes into my drive, Jadie called to tell me he had already seen a car turned over on its side.  The mist from the road was freezing on my windshield and I was approaching the portion of my journey that contained bridges.  I took Jadie's advice and turned the car around to head home.

And thats where we are for the rest of the day.  It's PB&J and nachos for lunch today.

Y'all stay warm!

Crafting with Caleb: Valentines

Quote of the Day

Me: "Caleb, where is Sarah?"
Caleb:  "Ugh.  I'm going to have to investigate!"

Snow Day: February 4, 2011

This was the day Jadie should have stayed home.  And he tried to.  He called his supervisor on the way to work to ask if he could take a vacation day because his truck was not handling the icy roads well.  She said, "No."

So Jadie continued on his way.  About 20 miles from home (and 10 miles from work), he was slowing because of a vehicle in front of him.  His truck fish-tailed and hit the concrete median head on.  He damaged the bumper and lost his license plate on the highway.  He had the presence of mind to think to gas it once his truck spun around facing the shoulder.  This landed him in the ditch, but thankfully out of the flow of traffic.  Praise the Lord, because there was a big rig coming up next.

While waiting in his truck on the side of the road, he called his supervisor again.  He told her that he would not be making it in to work that day.  She said he would be receive an incident if he didn't come in.  An incident is kind of a two strikes to disciplinary action type of thing.

Anyway, he ended up arriving back at home around noon to stay the rest of the day.  There was no way he could drive his truck in to work with the roads iced as they were.

This is what the kids did while the yard was full of snow!

Crafting with Caleb: Blank White Canvas

For last Friday's art project, I let the kid go wild on a plain white canvas.  No abstract art for him.  He wanted to paint a desert scene for his bedroom wall.

I was thinking of something like this for his canvas:

He was thinking this instead:

Nice work, buddy!

And the process:
