4th of July Photos

We are laid back when it comes to celebrating the birth of our country.  Typically, we go to a friend's house outside of city limits to light up our firecrackers and enjoy some hot dogs together.  This requires very little planning on our part.  We pick up some drinks or chips at the store and a bag of firecrackers at the firework stand.  Then we show up and enjoy the evening.  And the fireworks of those around us.  There are always others who are setting off the real deal within a mile or so of where we are.  It makes for a fun show, even without the professionals to do it up right.

The Texas heat and lack of rain threw a kink in that plan this year.  The firework stands were all closed this year.  Dry grass makes for a terribly high risk of grass fires.

Our modified plan for the big day (Monday) was to get our swim on!  We still enjoyed hot dogs, ice cream, and a delicious flag cake.  I missed the fireworks, but was thankful for a nice, cool, wet place to be during the heat of the day.

I only took 2 pictures all day.  That's what happens when you're either wet from swimming or busy dealing with an almost-2-year-old who won't take the nap she so desperately needs.  I ended up spending over an hour trying to get those little eyes to close.  I think the biggest problem was the lack of her silky blanket.  Note to self:  Always bring the silky blanket when there's a chance she'll a nap.

This is Larry, who opened his home and pool to us!

Our Saturday plans included running errands and visiting Jadie's mom.  She can really whip up a good meal!  We enjoyed grilled chicken, hamburgers, veggies, baked beans, and chocolate cake.
